Exciting times ahead for Jazz

I haven’t mentioned this in ages and I know it’s not book related but I had to vent my excitement…as some of you might be aware, I got a place on a postgraduate course at the University of Leicester this September. Last week, I finalised my accommodation and all that shizzle…

…and now I might possibly have a job ready and waiting when I arrive in Leicester! Because my postgrad is in teaching English as a second language, I figured it might be a good idea to email a few language schools to enquire about any part time teaching or teaching assistant roles.

And one school seems interested, saying that they might have some teaching roles going in September and that if I dropped by they’d show me around 😀

The past year or so has been difficult. I returned from my year in Japan with so much ambition – move down to London, get a job as an editorial assistant etc – but everything just went wrong from the moment my plane landed at Heathrow. I was intending to stay in my hometown of Lincoln for two weeks at most (a year and two months later, I’m still here), I started to run out of money so started working a job that I’ve found challenging to say the least, largely due to my anxiety and I ended up living back in my family home which, while lovely, felt like a huge step back for me.

But now I’m finally starting to feel positive about things! I have something exciting and new on the horizon! I actually feel happy.

    1. Thank you! 😀 Ooo a Leicestershire native, are you? Not that I assumed that from the term ‘degenerate’, more by the ‘foul-mouthed’ and ‘sarcastic’ 😛

  1. This sounds exciting! We have a lot in common! I went to live in Japan, and my plans were ruined, I ended up moving back with my mom, I got a small job as a tutor at university because I couldn’t handle more due to my anxiety… Anyway, This is great news!!! 😀

    1. Ooo we do indeed have a lot in common! Whereabouts in Japan were you living? What university do you tutor at? I’m hoping university tutoring will be something I’ll enjoy. It’d be nice to finally have a job I feel happy staying in for a few years 😛 I’m sorry to hear about your anxiety, though. So many people say unhelpful things like “But you can’t let it hold you back!” as if it’s as easy as just clicking your fingers and poof! You don’t feel anxious anymore.

      1. I was in Kyoto, studying at Ritsumeikan 🙂 I tutored for two years in Bordeaux Montaigne, it was great to share but not all students were there because they wanted to! I’m learning to live with anxiety and it’s okay now 🙂 I always have something to snap back at people who think you just “have to try a little harder” !

      2. Ooo Kyoto! I went there for a few days, but it was Golden Week so it was manic! Did you get chance to visit Yokohama? That’s where I was staying 🙂 Bordeaux is in France, right? That’s awesome! It sounds like you’ve travelled quite a bit 😀 Ah I know the kind of students you mean. I had this awful class of 13 year olds who were only there because their parents wanted them to pass their exams. It didn’t matter what games we played or what activities we did, they hated it and, as a result, me it seemed!
I’m pleased to hear you’re learning to live with anxiety 🙂 It would be nice if we could completely eradicate it, but learning coping mechanisms is the next best thing ❤
