Bookish DIY project

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I just can’t stop buying books. The rate at which I buy books far exceeds the rate at which I read them. So when I started having to do this…

…and this…

…to fit books onto my shelves, what did I decide to do? Read some of these books and pass them on to charity shops, friends or family, thereby creating more shelf space?

Oh, no.

I decided that I was going to build a new bookcase. I headed on over to Etsy and bought myself four wooden crates for a mere £7.99 each. I had visions of building a charmingly rustic bookcase for mine and my boyfriend’s bedroom.

Well, the crates arrived today and I’m suddenly not feeling so confident in my DIY skills.

They’re pretty smelly, so much so that we’ve put them on the balcony to air out, and one of them definitely has mould growing on it. As I mentioned, they were only £7.99 each, though, so I can’t complain too much. Hopefully, with a bit of cleaning and sanding, they’ll make the perfect bookcase. I have a week off work starting from today, so I think this is going to be my project for the next wee while.

What was your last DIY project? Let me know in the comments!
