Haunted – A poem

Haunted

The skittering of autumnal leaves along empty paths

Is your voice, a quiet whisper that haunts the night

The cool kiss of a midnight breeze against my skin

Is an echo of your once lingering and loving touch

The heavy, earthy scent of rain but a moment passed

Is the ghost of your crushing, warm and safe embrace

The glimmer of moonlight shining through the trees

Is but a spark of the hope you once ignited in my heart

You – the memory of you and your essence – haunt me.

  1. You’re crushing me… this poem is just too good.. well, not too good.. it’s bloody great!
Thing is… I can relate to this SO much… so so so so much it makes me want to cry! This poem is a time travel machine that takes me back to that first (puppy) love during those bright summer nights with crickets and owls and smell of dew… something which never got its wings but had some beautiful moments and as such will forever… haunt… Brilliant! ❤

    1. Awww thank you so, so much for your sweet words! ❤️ I’m so glad you could connect to the poem. That’s one of the many things I love about poetry. It touches people at a soul level, evoking different emotions and memories and I love that one of my pieces has done this for you ❤️ And can I just say, your first love sounds way more romantic than mine 😜 My first boyfriend locked me outside his house in my underwear!

    1. Well, I was originally going to publish through Smashwords a month or so ago, but I was finding the formatting too difficult without Microsoft Word. I’m getting Word on my day off, though, so sometime in the next month or so 😀 The actual manuscript for my anthology is ready, as is the cover, it’s just a few last minute tweaks!
Thank you so much for your lovely words 😘
