Jazz’s book buys

I’ve been shopping today and as I had loads of points on my Waterstones loyalty card, I decided to treat myself to a couple of books (I treat myself a lot). I’m always slightly in awe of the pretty book pictures people post on Instagram so I decided to try my hand at a bit of the ol’ Bookstagramming 🙂

I’ve heard so many positive things about this book and as I’m really interested in mythology, I thought I’d give it a try. Plus it was on offer! My inner-broke-20-year-old-student-Jazz squeals delightedly in the face of a good offer (who am I kidding, I’m still broke)

I don’t know why I balanced this on ferns (are these ferns?) but I thought it looked cool with the setting sun splashed across the cover. I’m on a poetry binge at the moment and thought this seemed an interesting read.

What are your latest book buys? Have you read either of the above books?

  1. Super stoked you picked Norse Mythology! I have acquired a ton of ebooks. I need to seriously turn off Kindle notifications. It is becoming a problem 😦 I won’t divulge how many books I picked up. That would be like a confession at this point.

  2. Cool pictures, my own photo taking blows!😂

No books with abs on the covers?!🤔 I guess Waterstones probably don’t sell ‘those’ sort of books!😂

I’ve read Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, it was my first foray into reading Gaiman, I lost my Gaimanity with it! I like Mythology (particularly Greek and Norse) and I really enjoyed it, lots of people seem to like the book but I’ve seen a few negative reviews around too. I hope you enjoy it.

    1. Haha thanks! Although I think Instragram’s filters played a large part in making these photos look somewhat decent! 😛

Well, if you go into larger Waterstones (ie Leeds) you’ll be delighted to know they have shelves upon shelves of books with abtastic covers ;D You should check them out, you never know, you might surprise yourself and find a new favourite genre 😀 😀

I like mythology too, especially Greek, but I don’t know too much about Norse 🙂 Hoping this will be an exciting, action-filled introduction to it!

      1. Not sure it’s an action filled introduction, it’s an eclectic mix of shorts but really good and both me and Danielle liked it and……we both have awesome taste in books!😀

Ah, I know more about Greek Mythology too, mainly thanks to the God of War Playstation games!😂 Nah, even without them I like Mythology.

Eurgh, abtastic, that’s a word that needs the barf emoji!🤢😂

        Shelves upon shelves, nightmare!😂

      2. Well, I read ‘Kings of the Wyld’ (which I adored) because of you two, so yeah, I can agree on the fact that you both have an awesome taste in books 😛 I trust your judgments!

Haha most of my initial Greek mythology knowledge came from crappy movies like ‘Clash of the Titans’ (the newish one) 😛

Oh and you spelled “heaven” wrong 😉

  3. Yay for book shopping! I haven’t been to book shopping for such a long time 😦
I can’t wait for you to read Norse Mythology… I’m on the fence with it, so your review will decide it’s fate in terms of my reading priorities with this one.. sooo… no pressure! 😀 LOL- just kidding.. kind of! 😉
I hope you enjoy the books! And- the pics are lovely!

Midsummer’s Eve is a big thing in Estonia (us, heathens!) and it’s a tradition to go looking for the fern blossom during the night even tho the fern never blooms… I just think it’s an excuse to get away from the bonfire party and go into the forest for some other… extracurricular activities 😄 😀

    1. Haha you might be waiting for a while with my review 😛 I have such a massive backlog of books to read! I’ve never read any of Neil Gaiman’s work, but I know he has a legion of fans so I’m keen to see what all the fuss is about 😛
Aww that’s such a lovely little tradition, even if it is just an excuse for ‘extracurricular activities’ 😛 The sentiment’s nice all the same! Why do you look for fern blossom? 😀
